Ecological Thinking in Architectural Design

CASE is a research and education organisation the predicates it’s approach on the idea of built ecologies. They advocate and approach to architectural design that see’s built things as inherently systemic. It’s a good approach and one that starts to address the true complexity of the ecological sustainability task.

Similarly to the Solaesthetic Ethos they insist on locating architecture in an ecological paradigm, where resource and energy cycling and trophic resource transfer are built into the design assumptions. The institution is tied to architectural technology industrial interests so there are certain biases and limitations acting on their approach, but they are pointing in the right direction at least.

They have produced some really interesting technology.
